Emergency situations are one of the crises that people tend to worry about. Because of
this, insurance and contingencies are made, in order to prevent and limit the damages that
an emergency could possibly do. But, because of the inability of senior citizens and
persons with disabilities to help themselves during an emergency, they are always reliant
on professional emergency assistance and services, such as public safety offices. This
study aims to aid senior citizens and persons with disabilities on reaching and contacting
for help through local public safety office, that offers emergency assistance and services,
with just a simple push of a button. The researchers built a wristwatch-like device that
sends out emergency message on the local public safety office. The researchers chose the
LGU of Marikina City as the setting of the study, mainly because of the long-time public
safety program of the city, Marikina Rescue 161. The said device harbors several
features, such as GPS, GSM, an accelerometer sensor that senses abrupt shock and speed,
which mainly pertains on a fall, and many more. The said device undergoes on a series of
test, by simulating an emergency, and measuring the speed and accuracy of the
communication means used for the device. On the evaluation of the device, based on the
functionality, aesthetic, workability, durability, economy, and safety of the prototype, it
achieved an overall rating of 4.4512, which is interpreted as “Very Acceptable”.
