Shredding is the process of cutting or tearing objects into tiny pieces, especially small strips
using a tool designed to shred, cut or tear the purpose into small pieces. Foods, mainly
fruits, and vegetables such as carrots, potatoes, green papayas, and cassava, are shredded
as a requirement to be processed further to produce products like carrot cakes, hash browns,
atsarang papaya or pickled green papaya, and cassava products like cassava cakes, rice
cakes, and pichi-pichi. This study, entitled Development of Multi-Purpose Shredding
Machine, aims to shred selected fruits and vegetables automatically with choices for types
of shred and alarms to inform the user when the shredding is done. It has multiple types of
shredding disc with different sizes to shred any fruits or vegetables according to the
preferred type or size of the shred of the user. Test results had shown that the machine
could shred 5 kilograms of fruits and vegetables on an average of 50 minutes. The use of
pneumatic system increases the functionality and user-friendliness of the machine. The
project was presented and evaluated by thirty evaluators composed of five (5) Professors,
fifteen (15) Livelihood organization workers, and ten (10) technical experts, and having a
mean score of 4.5 meaning excellent. This concludes that the Multi-Purpose Shredding
Machine had managed to meet the production of the shredding process safely and
conveniently. The use of food-grade stainless steel that have a high corrosion resistance
which prevents contamination also improves the quality of the machine.
