This project entitled "Development of a Semi-Automatic Creasing and Perforating
Machine", was designed and developed for a practical and affordable creasing and
perforating solution for small-scale printing and for the Graphic Arts and Printing
Technology Department (GAPT). The overall dimensions measure 670 mm x 500 mm x
420 mm. Each assembly is made up of galvanized steel coil materials, while the creasing
and perforating blade assembly is made of stainless steel and silicon rubber. Additionally,
the machine has safety features in the perforating and creasing assemblies to protect
operators from potential hazards. A 100 PSI compressor was used to operate the pneumatic
cylinder to control the jig pad in order to operate the creasing and perforating blades. A
0.7% MPa of air pressure will be used to crease and perforate a piece of paper, thereby
increasing the productivity of the creasing and perforation. The machine can crease up to
1160 pieces of paper with 70 GSM within 5 minutes and perforate 50 or more pieces of
paper with 60 GSM within 5 minutes. The acceptability performance of the machine was
evaluated by a group of printing professionals, faculty members, and students of the
Graphic Arts and Printing Technology Department (GAPT) of the Technological
University of the Philippines (TUP). Results of evaluation show an overall rating of 4.49
with a descriptive rating of "Outstanding" in terms of functionality, aesthetics, workability,
durability, safety, and economy. The use of the machine was proven to be more effective
compared to manual creasing and perforation, which are time-consuming and do not
require multiple man power in the operation.
