The study, The Effect of Sugarcane Bagasse as raw material in Cement Bonded Board
aim to provide an alternative use for the waste from sugarcane, which is the sugarcane
bagasse. The Cement Bonded Board made out of Cement, water and sugarcane bagasse
as raw material can be a substitute for building boards due to high production of
agricultural waste. The study focusses on the effectiveness of the cement bonded board
using sugarcane bagasse. The study consists of different ratio 5:95, 7.5:92.5, 10:90 and
has a dimension of 300mm x 300mm x 10.2mm to determine the effectiveness of the
sugarcane bagasse as raw material in cement bonded board. The cement bonded board
underwent through several physical tests like Thickness Swelling (TS), and Water
Absorption (WA) tests. For the mechanical test, the board underwent through Modulus of
Rupture (MOR), and Face Screw Holding (FSH) tests. The test result showed that some
of the mix ratios have met the PNS Standard of different types of particleboard and some
did not meet the PNS Standard of different types of particleboard. The cement bonded
board was evaluated by 30 evaluators in Technological University of the Philippines –
Manila and were rated with an overall mean of 4.46 with a descriptive equivalent of
“Very Acceptable”. Which means that the cement bonded board with the use of
sugarcane bagasse as raw material was approved from their standard in terms of
evaluating the board.
