Laguna is a province in Region IV-A CALABARZON. The province is
celebrated for its rich cultures, festivities, natural endowments, and traditional
crafts passed down through generations such as wood carving, embroidery,
weaving, and papier-mâché. Despite CALABARZON leading the Philippines in
tourist arrivals, Laguna has the fewest visitors among its provinces, revealing
untapped potential in its cultural and tourism sectors.
This study proposes a Handicrafts Complex in Laguna to preserve its
traditional crafts, support artisans, and attract more tourists. Using a quantitative
descriptive research method, the study gathered data through surveys, interviews,
and on-site observations involving artisans, residents, and tourists, which were
gathered and examined to provide an analysis. The researchers conducted
feasibility studies which included financial, legal, and cultural analyses to form the
basis for the design proposal of the complex. Behavioral analysis and spatial
interrelationships were also considered to create a functional and engaging
layout, suited to the needs of the users.
The proposed complex features spaces for workshops, exhibits, and retail,
addressing key challenges such as declining youth interest, limited market
access, and competition from mass-produced goods. It aims to promote cultural
awareness, enhance tourism, and support Laguna’s artisans and MSMEs by
providing a sustainable platform for skill transfer, product display, and visitor
interaction. By aligning with local development plans, the project seeks to

strengthen Laguna’s cultural identity, increase tourist arrivals, and ensure the
survival of its craft traditions for future generations.
