The production of sweet potato in Tarlac has made them as one of its top producers of in the Philippines. Sweet potato is dubbed as a poor man's crop but recently, the industry has a potential for projection of growth. The crop has a myriad of promising products that can be made from its root and vines which can give added income for the farmers. Lack of post-harvest facilities for processing and lack of proper storage slows down the sweet potato's industry growth that cause losses for potential income that could've help the ones cultivating the crop.
The aims of this study is to design post-harvest facilities that can give added quality and so as added income for the crop's myriad of possible by-products. Subsequent to this, proper storing warehouses are also present in the design to give the crop a longer shelf life.
This proposal shall focus on the current situations of Monada, Tarlac as well as the Central Luzon region in the production of sweet potato crop. The designing process includes interviewing the probable users of the processing complex, analysis of site, and researching the ways of processing the crop. With these methods, the study eventually showed the processing facilities that the industry needs and so as the projected dimension of warehouses for the volume of produce that needs to be stored. Provincial zoning, allocated budget, and other design considerations will limit the design. All of the gathered data, results and analysis presented in this study shall be used as a design for a sweet potato processing complex.
