Plastic waste is one of the biggest problems in the environment today because it is hard to
dispose of and takes up too much space in landfills. This study was made to design, build,
and test a densifier machine with a motor-controlled mixer that can help reduce the volume
of soft plastic waste such as bottles, wrappers, and foams. A review of related studies
showed that densification is an effective way to manage waste by making materials more
compact and easier to store, move, and recycle. This guided the researchers in creating a
machine that uses heat and mixing to melt plastics into smaller and solid forms. The
machine was built using stainless steel, cast iron, and other locally available materials. It
has five main parts: the densification chamber, motor-controlled mixer, burner, cooling
system, and base. The motor-powered mixer was designed to keep the melted plastic mixed
evenly without manual work. The machine was tested using PET bottles, polystyrene foam,
and LDPE plastics. Results showed that the melting time ranged from 3 to 18 minutes
depending on the type and weight of the plastic. The evaluation of the machine was done
using six criteria: functionality, durability, workability, safety, appearance, and cost. The
ratings were from Very Good to Excellent.
The study concluded that the densifier machine with motor-controlled mixer is effective in
reducing the size of soft plastic waste. It is safe, easy to use, and affordable to build. The
machine is a useful tool for small-scale waste management and recycling.
