The employment of humans to transport merchandise from one location to another necessitates n significant amount of work and time. The researchers used mechanical aids to assist personnel in heavy item handling tasks, making them more efficient and safer. The project's main objective is the development of a battery-operated portable lifter that can lift cargo and boxes of groceries and can fit in the aisles of a small-scale grocery store. It can elevate a load that weighs up to 80 kilograms. The prototype consists of base, mast, E-fork, battery, control panel, handle and caster wheel, with an addition of counterweight. There are already available lifters in the market, powered by DC battery and AC battery. It can be operated manually and with the help of different core components. Compare to the other existing machines, the prototype is light weight, practical, user-friendly, and has a safety features. The researchers tested the prototype according to its load capacity and operation test, voltage range, and battery charging and discharging test. The voltmeter displays the battery's state of charge; 12.0 V indicates low battery, while 12.8 V indicates full battery. The results showed that the prototype can perform continuously for 3-hours while it is charging time took 2 and a half hours. Thirty-six (36) respondents evaluated the prototype using TUP evaluation instrument and obtained an overall numerical rating of 4.67, which is equivalent to a descriptive rating of Excellent. The researchers conclude that the battery-operated portable lifter achieved the study's primary objective. -- Author's abstract.
