The study aimed to determine the anthropogenic activities, water quality, percent coverage, and seagrass species present in Ang Pulo, Brey. Quilitisan, Calatagan, Batangas for five consecutive sampling months starting from April 2017. Three site were selected: Site 1 (entrance of Ang Pulo), Site 2 (tourist site), Site 3 (near a patch of mangroves). Water samples and seagrass were obtained using composite-grab sampling method and seagrass were collected grab method. A total of three transects measuring 20 meters were made at each sampling site, with four (4) quadrats, starting at Om to 30m, with a distance of 10m intervals. Human-induced activities were determined using survey coupled with interview to 30 key informants and results revealed that fishing, boating, excreting, and washing of clothes were the leading activities in the sites. TDS, salinity, turbidity, conductivity, pH, and DO are within the allowable limit for class SC water, but not the nitrates, phosphates, and total coliform. Site 3 has greater seagrass percent coverage and more diverse than Site 1 ans Site 2, attributed to its location, anthropogenic activities are less seen. Overall, seagrass abundance is significantly influenced by temperature, pH, TDS, salinity, and nitrate contents.--Author's Abstract. |
