Summary, etc. The adsorption of hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) using synthesized PANI/cotton composite was<br/>investigated in this study. Two different oxidizing agents (potassium persulfate and ferric nitrate)<br/>and dopants (acetic acid and aspartic acid) were used for the polymerization of aniline<br/>monomers. PANI/cotton composite was characterized by Scanning Electron Microscopy and<br/>Fourier Transformed Infrared and thermogravimetric analysis. The results showed that the<br/>PANI/cotton composite reduces and converts hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) to trivalent chromium<br/>(Cr3+). The removal efficiency of PANI/cotton composite was examined using UV-Vis<br/>spectroscopy at different contact time. PANI/cotton that utilizes potassium persulfate as an<br/>oxidizing agent and acetic acid as dopant for polymerization of aniline efficiently demonstrated<br/>great removal capacity towards hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) because of its recyclability.<br/>PANI/cotton Fe3+ can be used for 2 cycles only while potassium persulfate can be used in 4-5<br/>cycles and the reduction of hexavalent chromium was continuous.SEM analysis showed that<br/>PANI/cotton-K2S2O8 appears to be rougher and denser.<br/>Keywords: Polyaniline, cotton, adsorption, hexavalent chromium, potassium persulfate, ferric<br/>nitrate, acetic acid, and aspartic acid.
