Environmental concerns influenced by the extreme use of synthetic dyes in industries have<br/>grown exponentially. The challenges resonate with the shift in society's interest in<br/>exploring natural alternatives in dyeing applications. In this study, Cordyline fruticosa, or<br/>Ti plant, a widely recognized ornamental plant in the Philippine landscape, has been<br/>explored for its potential as a natural dye for cotton fabric dyeing applications. The dyeing<br/>parameters were the utilization of different mordants (copper sulfate and aluminum<br/>sulfate), mordanting techniques (pre- and post-), and varying dyeing times. Aqueous<br/>extraction was carried out to derive the extract and was characterized using different<br/>methods. The phytochemicals present were identified to be flavonoids, saponins, tannins,<br/>and the most prominent influencing the color, anthocyanin. In line, the UV-Vis spectra<br/>revealed a peak at 518 nm emitting red. Furthermore, the dyed cotton fabrics were<br/>evaluated using different instruments. FTIR exhibited peaks corresponding to functional<br/>groups O-H, C-H, C-C, C=C, and C-O related to the phytochemicals. The microscopic and<br/>morphological imaging showed evenness and clumping of the dye as indications of dye<br/>adherence. The color quality of the dyed fabrics implies influences of mordants,<br/>mordanting technique, and dyeing time on the overall dye uptake of the fabric.<br/>Colorfastness results convey the dyed fabrics' exemplary performance in rubbing and<br/>laundering; however, it is suggested that color stability be improved due to their relatively<br/>poor resistance to color change.
