This study has been conducted to determine the lead concentration and health risk<br/>assessment of the water and Tunsoy (Sardinella fimbriata) in Barangay Ligtong IV, Rosario,<br/>Cavite. The fish and water samples were collected from November 2023 to April at the three<br/>selected sampling sites in Manila Bay where the distance is over 500 meters (about 1640.42 ft). At<br/>least 500 ml (about 16.91 oz) of water and 500 grams (about 1.1 lb.) of fish were obtained at each<br/>sampling point every month during the five-month sampling period to determine their lead<br/>concentrations as well as the water’s pH and temperature. The samples were then analyzed in the<br/>laboratory right after labelling the water and measuring the fish's weight and dimensions. The<br/>laboratory used 3111B. Flame Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) and Flame Atomic<br/>Absorption Spectrometric to identify the lead concentrations of the samples. The results were<br/>compared statistically using the Friedman and Pearson r correlation test. The data shows a high<br/>negative correlation between the lead concentrations of the fish and the water's pH level. According<br/>to the Estimated Dietary Intake (EDI) of lead concentrations in Tunsoy, only the month of January<br/>passed the maximum permissible limit of lead in fish as per recommended by Food and Agriculture<br/>Organization (FAO) and World Health Organization (WHO). Moreover, the noncarcinogenic target<br/>risk quotient (THQ) of lead concentration in Tunsoy showed that all the data from the five-month<br/>sampling were all below the recommended level of exposure (THQ<1). With that, the toxic effect<br/>of lead is not to be expected by the consumers that were exposed to Tunsoy that have been<br/>contaminated with lead. |
