Summary, etc. This study addresses the pressing issue of waste management at TUP-Manila by<br/>developing an innovative trash bin with a built-in shredder. Designed to efficiently<br/>process Styrofoam thermoplastics, glass, tiles, and branches which are abundant in<br/>TUP-Manila, the device features a proximity sensor for automatic activation, an<br/>ultrasonic sensor to detect bin capacity, and a force-stop button for safety. Powered by a<br/>1-horsepower induction motor and controlled by an Arduino microcontroller, the<br/>shredder reduces waste volume significantly, producing fragments of waste between 21<br/>cm – 141 cm. Testing revealed its effectiveness in reducing waste volume, ease of<br/>integration into existing waste management systems, and a Very Satisfactory evaluation<br/>score of 4.28 across functionality, aesthetics, durability, and safety. While occasional<br/>blade jamming and noise levels were limitations, the device demonstrated potential for<br/>improving waste handling efficiency and sustainability in academic and industrial<br/>settings. Recommendations for future development include incorporating counter-knives<br/>for more consistent shredding, enclosing exposed components for added safety, and<br/>exploring renewable energy sources. This research highlights the feasibility of integrating<br/>mechanical and electronic technologies for sustainable waste management practices.<br/><br/>Keywords: built-in shredder, styrofoam shredder, trash bin, waste management, waste<br/>reduction.
