The project study focused on the development of particle board using shredded coffee husk<br/>as raw material and waste polybag as binder by determining its mechanical and physical<br/>properties. There are two (2) board samples of 300mm x 300mm x 12mm in every mix<br/>design of 30:70, 40:60 and 50:50 which has a single density of 0.8 g/cc. Each mix design<br/>was pressed into Heat Press Machine with the temperature of 110 degree Celsius for 20<br/>minutes. The developed boards in each ratio were cut into 3 pieces of 50mm x 150mm<br/>board for Modulus of Rupture, 3 pieces of 50mm x 100mm board for Face Screw Holding<br/>and 3 pieces of 50mm x 50mm board for each test of Internal Bond, Water Absorption, and<br/>Thickness Swelling. All mix design passed the Physical Properties such as Thickness<br/>Swelling and Water Absorption while the Mechanical Properties such as Modulus of<br/>Rupture, Face Screw Holding and Internal Bond was below in Philippine National Standard<br/>for Type 150. The particle board had an average result in evaluation, resulting 4.31 percent<br/>with a descriptive rating of “Very Acceptable.” This signifies that the board is functional<br/>to all 30 evaluators (student, faculty and professionals). |
