| Summary, etc. |
The soil quality assessment is one of the most important challenges of sustainable
agriculture and the development of a portable soil quality assessment device (PorSQAD)
with monitoring system. It is a device having sensors that get soil parameters, including
pH, N (nitrogen), P (phosphorus), and K (potassium), which are necessary for plant growth
and agriculture production. The readings are shown on an inbuilt LCD screen as well as
sent by a Bluetooth module to a simple mobile app created using MIT App Inventor. The
app helps to visualize the data, analyze it, and recommend crop results for farmers and
agronomists to make better and balanced farming decisions. Constraints of the traditional
soil testing methods only limit their functionality to remote and resource-rich locations,
requiring specialized laboratory processes that can take time and cost money; the
PorSQAD system addresses these issues. It was ideally designed to utilize locally available
technologies from the area, e.g., acrylic plastic for the casing, which doesn't need to be
imported and makes it lightweight and portable for all kinds of field conditions. The soil
testing device was rigorously tested for functionality, reliability, and usability, and found
to be highly accurate and efficient. The device presents an innovative approach by
incorporating current technology with agricultural practices to improve soil health
management practices and increase crop yields without the excessive use of chemical
fertilizers. Such a revolution would have to do with the novelty of this method for soil
quality as such, promoting environmental sustainability and agricultural productivity.
PorSQAD system equips farmers with real-time data and practical insights to take; bridging
the divide between technology and sustainable agricultural practices. The evaluation on
the performance of the developed prototype is based on the 5 criteria namely: functionality,
reliability, workability, portability, and efficiency. The evaluation resulted with an overall
mean of 4.47 with a descriptive rating of " Very Good." Based on the evaluation and
findings, this study can potentially help the agriculture industry become more efficient in
the production of high-quality crops produce.

Keyword: NPK, Soil pH, Soil, Crop, Portable, farmer, soil quality |
