Summary, etc. The Mechanical Engineering Department at the Technological University of the<br/>Philippines (TUP) - Manila needs essential laboratory equipment for testing diesel engines.<br/>This absence hinders students' ability to gain hands-on experience with crucial aspects like<br/>engine performance and emissions control. Therefore, this paper proposes designing and<br/>fabricating a dedicated diesel engine test bed for the department. This equipment is a valuable<br/>tool, providing students with practical learning opportunities and a deeper understanding of<br/>diesel engine operation. It used the prototyping approach, wherein after thorough research, the<br/>test bed is determined to be mainly composed of a 10-hp and air-cooled-type diesel engine<br/>(Yamma YM186FE-MP), bed frame, and a rope brake dynamometer. The test bed was able to<br/>perform five experiments, as per the guidelines conforming to CHED Memorandum No. 97,<br/>Series of 2017, specifically tailored for the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory 2 course. Such<br/>experiments highlight the use of instrumentations, specifically the dynamometer, tachometer,<br/>flow meter, and temperature sensors. By incorporating advanced instrumentation and<br/>experimental techniques, a comprehensive understanding of diesel engine dynamics is<br/>expected to be learned by the students, contributing to their academic and professional<br/>development through mechanical engineering. Through this endeavor, the paper emphasizes<br/><br/>the impact of integrating theoretical knowledge with practical experimentation to address real-<br/>world challenges and further innovation in diesel engine technology and education.
