This study focused on the utilization of sugar cane bagasse combined with coconut<br/>husk fibers in the production of composite boards to be used in the production of a remote<br/>controlled wall divider.<br/><br/>The bagasse used is in this study were obtained from Tarlac. The bagasse gathered<br/>from the farm were cleaned and sieved. Coconut fibers used in this study were from Villar<br/>Sipag Foundation in Paranaque City. The coconut fibers were cleaned and cut according<br/>to the desired length. The study also used Polyester Resin with MEKP as the binding agent<br/>in the production of boards. The physical, mechanical and chemical property<br/>characterization of the materials was done by Fiber Industry Development Authority<br/>(FIDA).<br/>The mixed design varied according to the percentage of bagasse, coconut fibers and<br/>the binder in the mixture. There were initial mix design which did not attained the desirable<br/>characteristics of a composite board. Several trials were made until the mix designs passed<br/>the desired characteristics of a composite board. The following mix designs were 10%-<br/>90%, 12.5%-87.5% and 15%-85% (bagasse and coconut fibers-binder ratio. After<br/>production, the boards were tested on its physical and mechanical properties. Results were<br/>obtained and it showed that the boards passed the standards of Philippine National<br/>Standards. |
