Summary, etc. Pinnidae shells are also known as “Tambulog Shells” in most provinces in the Philippines.<br/>It shows distinctive mechanical characteristics when compared to mechanical properties<br/>and chemical properties, which exhibit flexible valve margins allowing them to withstand<br/>shell breakage and facilitate repair mechanisms efficiently. Its fibrous and granular<br/>structure raises the possibility of its advantages when added to concrete. The researchers<br/>conducted a study that incorporated pinnidae shells into concrete pavers for general uses.<br/>Researchers came up with percentages of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% of pulverized<br/>pinnidae shells to 1:1.14:1.33 cement:sand: coarse aggregates ratio and 0.37% water<br/>content. The size of the concrete paving blocks is 200 x 100 x 60 millimeters, under the<br/>ASTM C936 as a standard dimension of concrete blocks. All concrete pavers underwent a<br/>series of tests for water absorption and compressive strength with a 28-day curing process.<br/>As a result of the testing for mechanical properties, concrete pavers have a compressive<br/>strength of 35.24 MPa for Mix Design 1 which has a 0% pulverized pinnidae shell, while<br/>38.91 MPa, 37.22 MPa, 29.78 MPa, and 34.35 MPa for Mix Design 2, 3, 4, and 5. For<br/>water absorption test results, it shows that mix design 1 control, has a 9.56% water<br/>absorption, while 11.16%, 10.21%, 12.30%, and 9.22% for mix design 2, 3, 4, and 5, which<br/>is higher than the ASTM Standard for Water Absorption 5%. The researchers concluded<br/>that as the shell contained in CPB increases the compressive strength will decrease, and<br/>the higher the shell percentage, it absorbs more water. Pinnidae shell is a viable material<br/>for concrete applications, according to the study’s findings, but more investigation and<br/>development are required to maximize its viability and performance.
