Summary, etc. Construction and demolition waste generation has increased over time as the world<br/>continues to develop, and an influx of waste has steadily filled up backfills which are left<br/>unused while it continues to degrade and pollute the surrounding environment. While<br/>studies have been done internationally about its potential usage as recycled material for<br/>concrete production, limited local studies have been done regarding this topic. Its<br/>application as a structural member is still experimental as it shows varying results as these<br/>wastes are from varying buildings or construction wastes. This study focused on the<br/>property characterization of recycled concrete aggregates (RCA) and the concrete paving<br/>blocks with RCA. The blocks were tested in accordance to the American Society for<br/>Testing and Materials (ASTM) specifications for compressive strength and water<br/>absorption. A beam obtained from the demolition of an elementary school in Novaliches,<br/>Quezon City was crushed into RCAs. The RCA was then utilized for full replacement of<br/>standard-coarse aggregates for the prepared design mixes. Different design mixes (Class<br/>AA, A, B, and C) and water-to-cement ratios (0.30, 0.40, 0.50) were used in the production<br/>of the concrete paving blocks. Physical and mechanical property test results showed the<br/>highest average compressive strength of 38.50 MPa which is below the required specified<br/>by ASTM C-936 Standard Specification for Solid Concrete Interlocking Paving Units and<br/>the highest water absorption rate of 3.50% which is standard for paving block applications<br/>which should be below 5%. Upon consideration of these test results, among the prepared<br/><br/>design mixes, the most desirable design mix is the Class AA mix with the optimal water-<br/>to-cement ratio being 0.4.
