520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. This study was focused on the development of corn cob and corn husk pulp blends as an
alternative source of paper. Two types of blends corn cob and corn husk mixture were
prepared, including 80% corn cob and 20% corn husk and 70% corn cob and 20% husk
pulp blends. The finished product was determined its tear strength, tensile strength,
bursting capabilities and folding endurance properties. Test results showed that the mixture
of 80% corn cob and 20% corn husk obtained; 9.16 mN m/g as the tear index, 27.55 Nm/g
as the tensile index, 2.09 kPam/g as the burst index, and 9.35 for the folding endurance.
On the other hand, the 70% corn cob and 30% corn husk ha.16 mN m/g as the tear index,
27.55 Nm/g as the tensile index, 2.09 kPam/g as the burst index, and 9.35 for the folding
endurance. The paper product was evaluated by 25 respondents to determine its
acceptability. The criteria used were aesthetic, durability, safety and economy and
generated a result of 4.48 with descriptive rating of very acceptable. This study was also
conducted to help in the reduction of agricultural wastes as well as the deforestation
problem that existed due to tree cuttings.
