Rice Milling is a crucial post-harvest activity for farmers in rural areas like San Miguel and<br/>Bulacan. These farmers face challenges, such as high milling costs, limited access to<br/>commercial services, and financial barriers to owning milling equipment. To address these<br/>barriers, the project study focused on the design, fabrication, testing, and evaluation of a<br/>Mobile Coin-Operated Cabinet-Style Rice Milling Machine. Local materials were used to<br/>construct the prototype, which features a compact design that is cost-effective, time-saving,<br/>and user-friendly, allowing farmers to mill rice in small quantities on a pay-per-use basis,<br/>eliminating the need for expensive equipment purchases. The machine is powered by a<br/>single-phase motor and incorporates key features such as a built-in 2kg feed hopper, a<br/>stainless-steel rice outlet, pulverized chaff output, a milling chamber, and a coin- operated<br/>interface with multiple time-based settings. The prototype was evaluated by 50<br/>respondents, including farmers, milling operators, mechanical expert faculty members, and<br/>acquaintances. The evaluation considered five criteria: functionality, workability, safety,<br/>aesthetics, and economic viability. The evaluation resulted in an overall mean score of 4.76<br/>with a descriptive rating of “Highly Acceptable.” Based on these results, the project study<br/>demonstrates that this rice milling machine can offer a sustainable and effective solution to<br/>improve the productivity and profitability of farmers in San Miguel, Bulacan. |
