520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Waste material like plastic bag and waste from polyester fabric can cause a severe problem
not only in our health but also in our environment because of its properties that cannot be
decomposed. The fibers’ size also permits them to be quickly consumed by fish and other
wildlife. These plastic fibers have the possible to bioaccumulate; concentrating toxins in
the bodies of larger animals, higher up the food chain. Recycling wastes can help lighten
our load on the environment. This study may help to reduce the polyester and LDPE waste
that causes pollution and contamination of clean water sources and to develop a low-cost
fiberboard. In this study, the fiberboard was prepared using fiber from polyester fabric and
binder from one of the products of LDPE which is a plastic bag at a ratio of 30:70,
40:60,50:50,60:40 and 70:30 respectively. As shown for physical property test results, for
the physical properties all sample except 60:40 and 70:30 polyester fabric is to LDPE
passed the required limit for water absorption (40% maximum absorption), for the
thickness swelling test, all mixture had passed the maximum amount of 20%. The
mechanical properties test results indicate that the three samples 40:60, 50:50 and 60:40
are the only samples passed the standard value for modulus of rupture (140 kg/m2). For
the face screw holding test, all mixture passed its required limit of 30 kilograms while last
one test the internal bond test did not get any sample to comply the required amount for its
standard 3 kg/m2. Therefore, the mixing sample that can be more suitable and alternative
for standard fiberboard are 40%:60% and 50%:50% of polyester fabric is to LDPE that
passed all criteria except for internal bond.
