| Summary, etc. |
Getting clean and safe drinking water remains a big concern in schools, where
students and staff need good water sources every day. At the Technological University of
the Philippines (TUP) - Manila, the current water refilling stations that work manually
causes to have long lines, have poor maintenance, and make everyone worry about how
potent water could be. This research aimed to solve these problems by developing
HYDRATE HUB, a solar-powered, coin-operated water refilling station integrated with a
mobile monitoring application to provide an efficient, sustainable, and user-friendly
solution for accessing clean water. The system uses solar energy to work, so it doesn't need
regular electricity and helps protect the environment. The coin part accepts 1-peso and 5-
peso coins and dispense cold water from sealed mineral water gallons to ensure water
quality and safety. The main brain of the system is a Raspberry Pi 4B, which controls
peripheral devices like the multi-coin acceptor, water pump, TFT LCD display for code
monitoring, sensors for water level, and solar power components. An ESP32-Wroom chip
helps the hardware connect to the mobile app. The mobile application was developed using
Flutter framework with Dart programming language and Supabase database. It provides
real-time monitoring capabilities exclusively for authorized staff members, including
tracking of total earnings, water gallon usage monitoring, and system maintenance
notifications. The system was evaluated using the TUP Evaluation Instrument for
Prototype Developed with twenty (20) respondents, including IT professionals, TUP
students, and TUP faculty members, focusing on functionality, aesthetics, workability,
durability, economy, and safety. Results demonstrated high acceptability in all categories,
with weighted means ranging from 4.53 to 4.70, which obtains an overall grand weighted
mean of 4.61 interpreted as "Highly Acceptable." This confirms the system's effectiveness
in addressing water refilling challenges at TUP-Manila. This study helps create better
campus facilities by combining solar energy with automatic water dispensing systems. It
can benefit schools, business owners, people who care about the environment, and future
researchers who want to work on similar eco-friendly projects. |
