Learning Web Development through traditional methods like lectures and
presentations can be monotonous, passive, and excessive in terms of information.
This study sought to develop a Digital Instructional Material (DIM) called LecX to
assist the students in efficiently learning the Web Development Lecture Course
Subject. Moreover, a Design-Based Research (DBR) approach was utilized. This
process involved identifying learning needs, designing and implementing
instructional solutions, evaluating their effectiveness, and refining them based on
the results. On the other hand, the population comprised 66 students of BSIE-ICT
3rd year and 26 students of BTVTED 2nd year. Based on the Thematic Analysis
from Phase 1: Problem Interpretation, the result shows that to address information
overload, effective strategies involve filtering and prioritizing relevant data,
distinguishing quality information by assessing credibility and simplifying complex
concepts into clear, concise, and visually engaging content. Additionally, the
results from Phase 3: Iteration and Evaluation data indicate a positive perception
of the respondents regarding Functional Suitability, Performance Efficiency,
Interactive Capability, and Reliability. These positive results were based on testing
LecX as a Digital Instructional Material. Moreover, it shows that the perception of
respondents generally finds useful and interactive. Specifically, it shows that LecX
made it easy for the respondents to manage knowledge in terms of Perceived
Usefulness. Lastly, Phase 4: Synthesis of Design Principles concludes that the
Emerging principle for phase 1 is Perceptual Load Theory. Phase 2 is the U.S.
Web Design Standard, and phase 3 is ISO-25010 and TAM. Therefore, student
feedback indicates that the LecX platform provides a reliable learning experience.
To further improve the LecX, future research should investigate the potential
benefits of integrating embedded code snippets with immediate result codes,
which may further enhance the overall student learning experience. |
