The study observed that ready-to-eat foods are increasingly consumed,<br/>especially by university students with limited time, such as Home Economics<br/>students at the Technological University of the Philippines-Manila. Researchers<br/>examined food consumption styles and the importance of food safety knowledge<br/>using the PREP Framework: Prevent, Recognize, Educate, and Practice, a food<br/>safety model for ready-to-eat foods.<br/>Qualitative findings highlighted misconceptions about food safety,<br/>challenges in regulation, and the need for public education. Meanwhile,<br/>quantitative results showed that students rated the PREP Framework as very<br/>acceptable, gaining confidence in safe food practices.<br/>The study concluded that the PREP Framework was effective in improving<br/>students' knowledge and confidence in food safety. Students were better<br/>equipped to recognize risks, follow safe handling protocols, and understand the<br/>importance of personal hygiene and sanitation. The findings support integrating<br/>the PREP Framework into broader educational programs while emphasizing the<br/>need for stricter regulations, public education campaigns, and improved vendor<br/>hygiene to mitigate foodborne illness risks. |
