Animation students are observed to have low creative thinking skills<br/>because some are enrolled in courses that are not aligned with their preferences<br/>or desired courses. This study used Mixed-Method Research embedded with<br/>Design-Based Research Design to develop a Short Tutorial Video for 3D Character<br/>Modeling to support Creative Thinking Skills among Animation students at the<br/>Technological University of the Philippines – Manila campus. Data gathered were<br/>from 1st to 3rd year Animation students and analyzed from a Qualitative and<br/>Quantitative perspective. The research was conducted in four phases: (1) Problem<br/>Identification: the researchers found that the presence of multimedia design<br/>principles in instructional materials with aligned and updated content helps the<br/>Animation students to become more engaged and knowledgeable in learning 3D<br/>Character Modeling using Blender; (2) Design and Development, presenting them<br/>with learning materials that are short, concise and follows step by step process<br/>while allowing them to think creatively using interactive questions. (3) Iterative<br/>Testing and Refinement; some students like to watch videos in vertical formats like<br/>reels and prefer to see the actual animator doing the Character is a user’s<br/>perspective; (4) Derivation of design Principles, the researchers recommend to the<br/>future researchers to create a different format for the audience and see if the<br/>engagement and creativity of the animation students really boost with this kind of<br/>format. |
