Summary, etc. This study was focused on the utilization of stalk waste from the Rattlesnake Plant (Calathea crotalifera) for the production of a woven textile. The stalks were immersed in both tap and well water for four weeks to allow fiber separation, after which manual and mechanical methods were used to extract the fibers. The fibers, after being cleaned, dried, and combed, were handwoven on a local traditional loom, and fabric samples were made by blending with 50% cotton yarn. Based on the results obtained from DOST-PTRI, tensile tests showed strengths of 1.63 N for fibers from tap water and 0.68 N for fibers
from well water, with corresponding fineness values of 221.88 Denier and 158.24 Denier, indicating a good source of fibers for a sustainable textile material. The top-load dimensional test showed the fabric's longitudinal shrinkage as -16.1% in length and - 2.5% in width, thus the fabric changed slightly in length while mostly retaining its shape. The flammability test conducted, according to ASTM D1230 22:45, showed that the warp burn time was 18.6 seconds, whereas the weft burn time was 16.9 seconds. Moreover, fifty participants evaluated the material, with an average rating of 4.63, indicating that the fabric was very well received. The findings here suggest that Rattlesnake Plant (Calathea crotalifera) stalk waste is a viable material that can be converted into a long-lasting, functional, and environmentally friendly textile product with properties that could be the future of the fashion industry.
Keywords: Rattlesnake plant (Calathea crotalifera), Tensile, retting, analysis, weaving
