Summary, etc. The study developed a particle board that utilized a waste bamboo culm sheath as an alternative raw material and polyester resin as its binder. Which aimed to determine the physical and mechanical properties of the Particle Board Bamboo Culm Sheath (PBBCS) using the proposed mixture designs. The reason for conducting this research was to minimize the growing volume of bamboo culm sheath waste and solve the problem of particleboards in water absorption and swelling. The preparation of materials and the production of the board were conducted by the researchers at the Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) and Mr. Danilo Bersaba's house at Cembo, Makati City. The production started by mixing and molding the shredded bamboo culm sheath and polyester resin using 40:60, 50:50 and 60:40 ratio, followed by cold pressing and curing for 3 days. All boards were subjected to series of testing in accordance to the Philippine National Standard (PNS 230:1989) at Q-tech Testing Center in Pasig City. The result showed that all mix design failed to meet the minimum standard requirement set by PNS. All the mix design demonstrates that it cannot resist the applied pressure by the machine and the durability and elasticity of the adhesive performed an important role and had a great impact in resisting the force acting perpendicular to the surface. This shows that the amount of polyester as binder and bamboo culm sheath as raw material essentially influences the particle board's physical and mechanical properties. -- Author's abstract
