Summary: This book is intended for teachers and students, among translators, and among foreigners interested in the study of the national language. The original of this vocabulary contained 26,000 English entries with probably around 82,000 Tagalog equivalents, but the publishers wanted an edition for students and one that could be priced within the pocketbook of every one. Thus, the author was commission to abridge the original into around 6,000 most common English words based on the fundamental word lists compiled by educational scientists from Oxford, Columbia and Chicao universities, with a few additions and modifications to adapt the lists to Filipino background. The three main objective of this vocabulary are: simplicity, facility of reference and accuracy. The Tagalog equivalents in this vocabulary have been chosen for their accuracy in meaning. The orthography of the Tagalog meanings has been made to conform with the rules of the official grammar published by the Institute of National Language.
