Dissertation note: College of Science -- Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, Technological University of the Philippines, 2022. Abstract: The study focused on the water quality and the abundance of freshwater mollusk and fish fauna in Morong Riverine Ecosystem in the Province of Rizal. Five sampling periods from the months of April to August 2018 were considered. The anthropogenic activities and perception of the locals in the protection and conservation of the river were also studied. Human-induced activities includes fishing, agriculture and irrigations. The physico-chemical parameters such as temperature, pH, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, salinity, resistivity, nitrates and phosphates were measured. The results showed that the physical, chemical and biological condition of Morong River did not conform to the DEN Standards for Class C waters Fresh Surface Waters while pH passed the standard. Freshwater mollusks identified are Semisulcospira sp., Pomacea sp., Filopaludina martensi sp., Mercenaria sp., and Unio sp. The most abundant freshwater mollusk was Semisulcospira sp. (Suso) and has the highest species importance value (2129). The least abundant freshwater mollusk was Unio sp. which has the lowest species importance value (2.653). Pearson r correlation showed that all the parameters have no significant relationship with abundance of freshwater mollusk. The Fish fauna collected were Oreochromis sp., Pterygoplichthys sp., Glossogobius sp., and Siluriformes sp. The most abundant fish species was Pterygoplichthys sp., (Janitor Fish) and has the highest species importance value (139.0). The least abundant species were Glossogobius sp., and Siluriformes sp. which has the lowest species importance value (1.030). Statistical relationship showed that, depth (r=-,655, p=.040), and total coliform (r- .690, p-.027) has a significant relationship with fish diversity, other parameters have no significant on fish diversity. Protection of morong riverine ecosystem should be maintained to conserve its freshwater mollusks and fish fauna present in the river.--Author's Abstract
