The Computer Studies Department of Technological University of the Philippines - Manila has always used a traditional approach when it comes to scheduling tasks. This approach has become increasingly more unpredictable for cases when the volume of accepted students exceeds the available resources that the department can offer. Thus, creating a schedule has become a dilemma for the scheduler which usually leads to classes starting behind the target date indicated by the university calendar. To address this problem, the researchers devised a system that solves the issue through an innovative approach that creates schedules by utilizing Genetic Algorithms to implement automation in scheduling tasks. The system developed uses genetic algorithms by imitating evolution's survival of the fittest to come up with the best possible schedule from different types of raw data such as professors, rooms, sections, subjects, and the like. Because of incorporating genetic algorithms, the web-based scheduling system solved the manual approach problems and attained a satisfactory rating from the study's respondents.--Author's Abstract.
