Dissertation note: College of Science.-- Bachelor of Applied Science in Laboratory Technology: Technological University of the Philippines, 2023 Summary: The antibacterial activity of formulated liquid hand soap with alagaw (Premna odorata) leaf extract was investigated in this study. The extraction process involved the maceration of 100 g of ground alagaw leaves in 95% ethanol, followed by concentration using rotary evaporator. The soap base was prepared using the hot process method. Cleansing properties and physichochemical parameters of hand soap with alagaw including pH, free caustic alkali, foam stability and organoleptic properties were assessed. Characterization was also done using FTIR. The Agar cup Method was employed to test the antibacterial potential of hand soap with alagaw against S. aureus and P. aeruginosa. The alagaw extract, soap base, and the three liquid hand soaps with alagaw crude extract have been seen to have functional groups of (O-H) hydroxyl, (C-H) alkanes (N-O) nitro, C-O ether, C=C alkene, FCA values fall within the accepted value of 0.06-0.69, pH values of the different liquid hand soap formulations fell within the acceptable range of 8.5 to 10.5. Regarding foam stability, the liquid hand soap containing a 5% concentration of P. odorata extract showed the longest duration of foam stability at 858 minutes, while the formulations with 10% and 15% concentrations had foam stability durations of 856 minutes. In terms of the zone of inhibition, the three formulated liquid hand soaps with P. odorata crude extract demonstrated antibacterial activity against both S. aureus and P. aeruginosa. Meanwhile, the overall results of the organoleptic test in terms of odor and color need improvement. Keywords: Alagaw, Permna odorata, Antibacterial, soap, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa
