Pandanus simplex leave need to be de-thorned before slitting and pressing the pandan
leaves to lessen the risk of getting hurt while doing this process. If handled incorrectly, the
final product’s quality will surely be affected. The “Semi-Automatic Slitting and Pressing
of Pandanus Simplex Machine” is designed for de-thorning, slitting and pressing the
pandan leaves with a width of 1.5cm – 2.5cm for the slitting mechanism, which is the ideal
size for weaving the baskets, mats and handbags using customize rollers with roller blades
(pizza pie cut). While for pressing, the machine was able to press 50 pcs. of stripped pandan
leaves using rubber rollers with a length of 45.8 cm. It consists of 1 hp, single phase AC
motor for each process, which are capable of running the two mechanisms at the same time.
A speed controller is installed to control the speed needed to operate the machine. Three
(3) indicator lights are installed for each mechanism. The prototype has the capability to
produce three and a half bundle (175 leaves) of slitted and pressed pandan leaves in 32
minutes with a maximum ampere rating of 1.984A. The prototype was evaluated by thirty
(30) respondents using TUP evaluation form and gets an overall rating of 4.57 which is
equivalent to “Excellent”. This proves that the prototype is very much more appropriate
compared to the manual process used by the pandan farmers.
