Dissertation note: College of Architecture and Fine Arts. -- Masters in Graphics Technology : Technological University of the Philippines, 2024. Summary: The Higantes, giant effigies paraded during Angono's town fiesta in November, are cultural icons. Despite their importance to the town's identity, their size poses logistical challenges for storage and mobilization. This study aimed to design a collapsible version of Angono’s Higantes, maintaining their traditional look and function. Objectives included developing a design, producing the BiyaHigante prototype using local materials, and evaluating it based on functionality, aesthetics, strength, safety, and economy. Findings showed high satisfaction across all criteria: functionality (mean=4.37, sd=0.62, satisfied); aesthetics (mean=4.62, sd=0.49, very satisfied); strength (mean=4.54, sd=0.49, very satisfied); safety (mean=4.59, sd=0.50, very satisfied); and economy (mean=4.65, sd=0.47, very satisfied). The BiyaHigante prototype showed significant improvements in weight and space efficiency compared to the traditional Higantes. Its economic value was confirmed through efficient material use. Recommendations include enhancing comfort, strengthening the stand, exploring alternative materials, optimizing production techniques, developing marketing strategies, engaging users for feedback, and securing design patents. Prioritizing these can make the BiyaHigante more user-friendly and sustainable, supporting the preservation and promotion of the Higantes tradition in Angono and beyond.
