Dissertation note: College of Industrial Technology. -- Bachelor of Technology major in Mechanical Engineering Technology : Technological University of the Philippines, 2019. Summary: Tents are commonly known as a temporary shelter that is used outdoors. The existing big tents, like a canopy tent, is hard to set up if the user lacks knowledge on how to do that. The study developed a prototype that can resolve the aforementioned problems. The study used a spring loaded mechanism to attain faster setup time compared to the existing tent that is equal to its size. The Quick Setup Tent is operated with a single pop-up mechanism, thus making it a user-friendly since the user does not need deep knowledge on to how set up a tent. The prototype is capable of sheltering 4 people when lying down and a maximum of 8 when seating or standing. The average set up time for 2 persons, 3 persons, and 4 persons are 3 minutes and 19 seconds, 2 minutes and 22 seconds, and 2 minutes and 18seconds respectively. It can resist more than 10 liters of water, and it can remain stable when subjected to 14.6kph wind speed. To test the functionality, it was evaluated by 30 different persons in terms of functionality, aesthetics, workability, durability, economy, and safety. The evaluators were composed of 5 students and 25 professionals. Based on the result of the evaluation, it obtained an overall mean of 4.59, which has an equivalent descriptive rating of “Excellent.” This result validated that the prototype was properly designed based on the function that it wants to attain.
