The study entitled the “Development of IoT Estrus Detecting Device for Cows” aims to
provide an effective way of detecting cow estrus for efficient artificial insemination using
sensor technologies for detecting cow estrus signs. The prototype consists of a wearable
device that focuses only on tracking excessive movement and successful mounting, which
is the two primary signs of cow estrus, and an android mobile application for viewing of
the gathered data. ESP8266 WiFi module is used as the main module of the device to
process gathered data and transmit to the local host server. The locally hosted database is
running on MySQL and PHP. As for the sensors, an accelerometer sensor is used to track
movements and an infrared sensor for detection of every successful mount. Both sensors
are attached to the ESP8266 WiFi module and programmed using Arduino while the
Android mobile application was developed using Unity and C# programming language.
The application requires the administrator to sign-in first in order to gain access of the
features of the application. Functionality test was used to determine if the system has
integrated all the required functionalities, design considerations, and functional
requirements.
