The study, "Development of a Voice Activation Assistance System for a Semi-Automatic
Side Mirror," aims to develop new technologies for vehicles that enhance drivers’ safety
and convenience. It has features of voice control and digital buttons that can be controlled
through dashboard touch screen tablet and emergency switches in the control panel in case
of a malfunction of Bluetooth connectivity. Also, it offers comfort to drivers and a new
experience for improved maneuverability. The prototype design is a customized simulation
of side mirror systems controlled by an Arduino Uno as the microcontroller, with a 12V
battery as the power source and power supply for the safety and support of the components.
It has safety devices like a buck converter to step down the voltage from 12V to 5V for the
electronic components and a relay in case of a short circuit. The study was evaluated by 50
evaluators composed of automotive professors, technicians, drivers, and students under the
Power Plant Engineering Technology Department and Electronics Department of the
Technological University of the Philippines—Manila. Moreover, the result indicates that
the weighted mean rating for functionality is 4.62, interpreted as “excellent.’ The aesthetic
value received a rating of 4.35, interpreted as “very good.” Workability achieved a rating
of 4.54, categorized as “excellent.” Durability was rated at 4.59, also deemed “excellent.”
The economy aspect was rated at 4.49, which translates to "very good," while safety was
rated at 4.56, which earns an "excellent" interpretation. The overall mean was rated at 4.52
with a verbal interpretation rating of "Excellent." This means that the system is useful
among the drivers in terms of functionality, effectiveness, workability, durability, economy,
and safety.
