In an era where the digital world transforms how people interact with everyday services,
conventional locker systems often fall short regarding accessibility, security, and
efficiency. Currently, the Technological University of the Philippines (TUP) - Manila
students do not have access to lockers, making it challenging to safely store their
belongings during classes and campus events without adding to the clutter in limited
storage areas. This study developed and implemented LockQ: Smart Locker System
using Raspberry Pi at the Technological University of the Philippines - Manila to
enhance campus safety, reduce physical clutter, and ease the burden on students carrying
large items. LockQ consists of four locker compartments—three allocated for user
storage and one for administrative use. It integrates a biometric fingerprint scanner to
ensure quick access and free from unwanted access, as well as a coin-based payment
system for convenient usage. The system also eliminates the need for traditional keys by
utilizing a solenoid valve mechanism for automated locking and unlocking based on
fingerprint authentication. Additionally, LockQ features a web-based application with
separate user and admin accounts for real-time tracking and locker management usage.
Throughout the project development, the researchers followed the Waterfall
methodology. During the testing phase, various evaluations focused on functionality. The
project was then evaluated by IT professionals and TUP - Manila students using the TUP
Evaluation Instrument for Prototype Developed. The results showed that LockQ is
functional, aesthetic, and safe, obtaining a grand weighted mean of 3.71, or a “Highly
Acceptable” adjectival rating, from the respondents of the survey questionnaire. LockQ
was designed to automate locker access for organizations and students at TUP - Manila
for a safer, more efficient, and more user-friendly solution.
