Cyclists often struggle to find safe and adequate parking, especially in areas
that lack proper bike facilities and rest spots. Quezon City Memorial Circle is known
as a popular and bike-friendly area. However, observations showed a large
number of cyclists but limited bike parking near the main attractions. To address
this issue, a dine-and-rest bike parking solution was proposed.
The Integrated Dine-Park and Rest Area is a facility with dimensions of 3500
mm x 1310 mm, featuring a resting area designed for user comfort, allowing
cyclists to fully recline. The space includes bike racks integrated with dining tables,
enabling users to eat without leaving their bikes. It also features a repair station for
minor bike maintenance. Strategically located near food stalls and close to the
Quezon Memorial Shrine, which lights up at night with the colors of the Philippine
flag, the design promotes convenience, safety, and efficient use of space for the
cycling community.
The acceptability and performance of the prototype, Huyahoy, were
evaluated by three groups: 91 bikers, 20 local tourists, and 10 Quezon Memorial
Circle administrators, for a total of 121 respondents. Using a research-designed
evaluation tool, the prototype was assessed based on five criteria: 4.65 for
functionality, 4.58 for durability, 4.56 for the comfortability, 4.64 for safety, and 4.65
for aesthetics. With an overall mean rating of 4.61, results indicate that Huyahoy:
An Integrated Dine-Park and Rest Area with Repair Station in Quezon Memorial
Circle is an effective and beneficial solution for the needs of cyclists.
