This study, titled “A Proposed Integrated Transport Terminal and
Commercial Center with Holding Facility in Matnog, Sorsogon Province,” aims to
ease the vehicle congestion along AH-26 and improve passenger management at
Matnog Port during adverse weather conditions and peak seasons. The project
proposes an integrated transport terminal and commercial center to enhance
transport connectivity and support local economic growth, along with a holding
area that serves as a temporary shelter for stranded passengers and waiting
vehicles. Existing alternatives, such as the One-Stop Shop (OSS) Processing
Center and the Blue Lane Program, were found to be unsustainable due to legal
and safety constraints. On the other hand, proposals intended to address the
recurring problem in Matnog require reevaluation. The 2015 PPA proposal for a
holding area is outdated, while the proposed 2023 Holding Facility emphasizes the
need for a sustainable solution that avoids reclamation. These efforts must also
integrate upcoming infrastructure like the PNR extension, TR-5, and the Sorsogon-
Samar Bridge. This study highlights the need for climate-resilient infrastructure to
enhance regional accessibility and stimulate economic activities.
