International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) held in 1994 in Cairo for the first time underlined the need for promoting adolescent reproductive health and rights. For strengthening the above approach, it is necessary that articulate young persons and NGO networks are involved actively in advocacy, education and training programmes in adolescent reproductive health and gender sensitivity and promote efforts to initiate open discussions and counselling on adolscent sexuality. Adolscents and youths should be trained and also used as trainers and counsellors for their peer group. As one of the prerequisites for educating all adolscents and gaining their full participation, continuing efforts are being made to institutionalize population education including education on adolescents and youth within friendly and facilittative learning environment. In the circumstances, a study measuring the adolscents awareness, knowledge, attitudes and preferences, on various issues related to adolscent sexuality and reproductive choice and reproductive health will immensely benefit in formulating learning content and designing teaching learning strategies for adolscent students in schools and colleges.
