Ascaris suum eggs provide substantial health risks to both humans and animals. Their
resilience makes it difficult for traditional approaches to eliminate their population. Studies
have used phytochemicals to eradicate them, with anthraquinone being one example. This
study investigated the anthelmintic action of anthraquinones isolated from duhat (Syzygium
cumini) leaves against Ascaris suum eggs. The duhat leaves were extracted using 60%
ethanol. The phytochemical analysis confirmed that duhat leaves extract contains bioactive

compounds. The duhat leaves extracted were purified with the Alcohol/Salt Aqueous Two-
Phase System (ATP), which included 1-propanol and ammonium sulphate. The

characterization process was employed to confirm and identify the extract. The absorption
peak at 280 nm confirmed the presence of anthraquinone using UV-Vis Spectroscopy.
Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy identified different peaks at 1409cm-1

corresponds to conjugated C=C bond (aromatic), and CO bond. The presence
of -OH bonds indicates that the solvent was not removed. The crude anthraquinone isolated
from duhat leaves was tested for anti-helmintic efficacy against Ascaris suum at three
different concentrations (25%, 50%, and 100%). The ANOVA showed that the
concentrations of 25% and 100% of anthraquinones duhat leaves extract have less than
0.05 significance difference. The different amounts of duhat extracts had similar effects on
the antibiotic while dissolving Ascaris suum eggs. The results indicate that crude
anthraquinones derived from duhat leaves extract are potential anthelmintic agent against
Ascaris suum. It was also revealed that the anthraquinone present in the extract was not
effectively purified using the ATPS method
