Metal detector is an electronic instrument that detects the presence of metallic objects located at short distances. The procedure in using metal detector are time consuming, requires more efforts and require the user to manually navigate the whole area to check if there are metallic objects underground. The autonomous robot for metal detection was developed to automatically navigate the set area without human assistance; it has collision avoidance, detects metallic objects and determines and records its coordinates. The recorded coordinates were saved at the SD card module and can be located using Google map. The prototype hardware such as motor driver, metal detector, GPS, compass, SD card module and infrared sensors are controlled by Arduino Mega 2560 and powered by 12volts rechargeable battery. The prototype was evaluated by 15 respondents consisting of end users and gathered a rated overall mean of 3.80 with descriptive rating of “very acceptable”. This proves that the prototype is a helpful innovation that can be used by hobbyist and metal detector user to increase the productivity.
