The study, Effects of Pineapple Leaves Fiber as Reinforcement to Royal Poinciana Pod- Isocyanate Board, aims to improve the physical and mechanical test results of the
previous research, Development of Royal Poinciana Pod-Isocyanate Board, while utilizing pineapple leaves wastes as reinforcement. The last study failed to meet PNS Specification for type 150 on Water Absorption, Thickness Swelling, Modulus of Rupture, Face Screw Holding Test and Internal Bond Test. The mix designs of this study are basing from the two (2) mix designs that had the best results of the previous research, 97:3 and 95:5, and reinforcing both designs with 5%, 10% and 15% of Pineapple Leaves Fiber. The project underwent significant processes such as raw material collection, fiber extraction, drying, shredding, sieving, mixing, molding, hot pressing, curing, testing and evaluation to determine the acceptability of the board. Based on the physical test results, only one mix design met the PNS for Water Absorption which is 27.82% while its Thickness Swelling is 21.55% which did not pass the PNS as well as all the other mix designs. For mechanical test results, none from the mix designs met the PNS for Modulus of Rupture while all mix designs met the PNS for Face Screw Holding Test and Internal Bond Test with best results of 77.12kg/cm2 and 8.33kg/cm2 accordingly. With an average mean of 4.19 from 30 respondents, the project was rated descriptively as “Very Acceptable.” Overall, the results from all mix designs showed improvement compared to the previous study.
