Mechanical oil pumps have been used in the automotive industry due to their relatively simple design, small overall dimensions, mass, ease of reversal, and maintainability. However, problems arise using this pump which include inadequate gear oil refill, pump calibration, inconsistent gear oil flow during refill due to possible leaks and spills, exposure of oil to outside contaminants, and discomfort while doing the process. Inadequate gear oil causes wear and tear between gears that leads to abnormal noise during operations. The developed semi-automatic gear oil refilling functions as a refilling machine that resolves not only leaks and spill issues but also contamination. This prototype benefits not only auto mechanics but also people with vehicles. The prototype also reduces the duration of gear oil refilling for the differential which benefits technicians by reducing the discomfort of refilling the differential. The design of the prototype also addresses the issues of spills, leaks, and contamination because it is secured with proper fittings and enclosed in a storage tank to reduce the risk of contaminants getting into the oil. The prototype was tested for how long the process of refilling is using the semi-automatic gear oil refilling versus the conventional way and the test results showed the semi-automatic process was much faster, averaging just 4 minutes and 18 seconds versus the conventional method which took 14 minutes and 54 seconds. The overall time saved on average was 10 minutes and 36 seconds. The prototype was evaluated by 50 evaluators composed of engineers, auto mechanics, technicians, and automotive students under College of Industrial Technology of the Technological University of the Philippines. It was rated with an overall mean of 4.56 with a descriptive rating of “Excellent”. This signifies that the device is useful for automotive mechanics and technicians in terms of Functionality, Aesthetics, Workability, Durability, Economy, and Safety.
