Lug nuts may be small metal fasteners, but they play a crucial role in vehicle safety by keeping wheels securely attached. This ensures that drivers can brake, turn, and accelerate without the risk of wheels coming loose. However, wheel theft is a growing issue in the Philippines, as highlighted in the report Wheel Theft. This report explores the motivations behind car part theft, the methods thieves use to steal wheels, and the economic impact of such theft, along with recommended prevention strategies. Addressing the issue of wheel theft, the project Development of Anti-Theft Wheel Lug Nut for Sedans was created to provide an innovative solution for car owners who lack secure parking options. This project aims to improve upon current anti-theft lug nut designs, which have proven vulnerable to tampering. The new anti-theft lug nut features an embossed inverted "T" shape embedded in the lower part of the locking mechanism, adding an additional layer of security. The system consists of a specially designed lug nut and a unique socket tool required to fasten or unfasten it, making it challenging for thieves to remove. The development process included multiple tests to ensure the durability and effectiveness of the prototype. These tests involved assessing the prototype’s strength, evaluating the torque it could withstand, and comparing its security against standard lug nuts when using basic hand tools. The aim was to create a more robust anti-theft device that provides better protection for vehicle wheels.
