This study presents the Development of a Monitoring System for Books Using Identification Technology, introducing a smart bookshelf system that employs RFID technology to track manuscripts in real-time and enhance user accessibility. The system integrates RFID tags on manuscripts, RFID readers embedded within the bookshelf, a fingerprint-based biometric system for security, and a touch screen LCD interface for efficient management and tracking of manuscripts. Each shelf, measuring 1.64 feet by 1.17 feet, accommodates manuscripts comfortably, while the RFID reader enables automated tracking of manuscript movements. Passive RFID tags affixed to the manuscripts facilitate efficient inventory management. A CCTV camera, positioned at a height of 6 feet on the left side of the bookshelf, ensures comprehensive monitoring of user interactions. Additionally, the bookshelf is mounted on six wheels for easy mobility and repositioning. The system enhances user experience, minimizes manuscript loss, and facilitates students’ access to previous works for idea development. Evaluation of the prototype yielded an excellent rating, with a mean score of 4.60, while test results showed an impressive mean of 9.5 or 95%. This study underscores the potential of RFID-based monitoring systems in advancing inventory management and information accessibility, highlighting the importance of continued research in this field.
