The study presents a machine that integrates both scalding and plucking processes
into a single unit, providing a continuous workflow for producing marketable chickens.
This aims to improve production speed and reduce labor costs for small to medium chicken
butchers. The machine was fabricated using food-grade stainless steel (SS304),
incorporating a perforated strainer inside the scalding system with a temperature controller,
a plucking chamber with a 2 Hp 3-phase motor, a plumbing system for water supply and
outlet, and a collector system. The machine is capable of processing up to 5 kilograms of
chicken per cycle. The testing for defeathering efficiency recorded the highest value at
97.3%. Acceptable scalding quality was achieved in time and temperature combinations of
57°C in 60, 57, and 54 seconds, and 63°C in 42 seconds. Furthermore, the average energy
per cycle using the machine was 0.0665 kWh, which was computed to be Php. 0.76 pesos
in average cost per cycle, showing a small cost for daily production use.
