Banana pseudostem fiber processing is becoming popular as a great way in creating useful materials from agricultural wastes. However, current decortication and extraction process fail to successfully remove residues and inconsistencies in the quality of fibers. This is due to limitations in the manual and machine designs. To improve the efficiency of fiber extraction, previous studies and patents have introduced mechanical and automated decorticating systems. Despite the effort of developing such technologies, these still create inconsistent fiber quality and impurities still remain. This study aims to develop a banana fiber post-decortication polishing machine that removes the said impurities and achieve good fiber quality. The study used an engineering design methodology approach that involved prototype development, system assembly, integration of sensors, conveyors, polishing mechanisms, Arduino Mega-based control system, and performance evaluation using Chi-Square analysis, regression analysis, and tensile strength testing. Results showed that it effectively removed impurities and showed significant improvement in the fiber quality and reduced manual labor. The tensile strength test confirmed that the polishing process preserved the tensile strength of the banana fibers with Sample 1 having a tensile strength of 35.93 N/mm2
, which is within the acceptable range of 18-45 N/mm2
, and with two-pass operation producing the most acceptable fiber quality. The developed system offers practical and eco-friendly solutions for improving banana fiber processing while promoting the usage of agricultural waste.
