Dumplings are among the most essential and traditional wheat-based foods in China.
The Philippines has embraced the dumpling tradition, reflecting the fusion of Chinese
influence with local creativity and flavors. However, several critical challenges faced by
vendors and manufacturers in the traditional dumpling-making industry are the labor-
intensive nature of the current manual wrapping techniques often leading to inconsistencies
in size and quality, affecting overall product appeal and customer satisfaction. This study
aims to enhance the efficiency of dumpling production by designing a machine capable of
wrapping precooked meat into dumplings. The machine consists of four (4) major
mechanisms: (1) a pushing mechanism that simultaneously pushes four (4) doughs; (2) a
plunging mechanism that plunges an approximate amount of meat fillings; (3) a wrapping
mechanism that simultaneously seals four (4) dumplings; and (4) a filling mechanism that
fills the tube fillings with meat-fillings. The fabricated tabletop semi-automated dumpling
maker machine produced a range of 160-188 dumplings per hour, and its average machine
efficiency is 94.71%. Based on the table entitled Evaluation for Safety Standards on
Dumpling Maker Machine, the respondents confirms that the machine generally complies
with most safety requirements. Out of the 11 safety criteria, 9 items received a “Yes”,
indicating satisfactory compliance in areas such as emergency stop, functionality,
protective guards, sharp edge prevention, electrical safety, stability, overheating prevention,
manual availability, cleaning safety, and food-grade materials.
